I heard Mitt Rommney yesterday on the news, heres a guy born into a elitist family, and the only thing that came out of his mouth was he wants to eliminate unions, take benefits away from all including retirees and he is willing to cripple America to do it. The auto executives need to show the country a solid plan and the UAW which has made big concessions needs to continue, most of all they need to put out a quality product. What troubles me is those who call for the big three to go into bankruptcy for there own self serving intreasts turn a blind eye to what will happen and that is mass un-employment,consider the loss in tax revenues and the billions that will be paid in un-employment benefits, either way it will cost the country big money. Its way to easy to blame the working man for the woes of this country!

How do the US automakers compete when salaries + benefits for an assembly line worker are much more than say Honda and Toyota? In addition, how can the US makers compete when their sales and performance sags, and then the guy at the top gets several millions in performance bonuses? What should be done by government, if anything, to address the slumps, or should the market address the problem by allowing the company's decisions - good or bad - to be the company's responsibilities?

One should listen to Mitt.

We have to take a dose of medicine and it will not taste good but the sickness or

cancer parasite (the UAW) and liberalPC policys, coupled with horrible

management that caused this disease must to be

killed before we get better. I'm sorry to say that wont come without much pain.

Its been malingnant and growing for a long, long time.

Time for a strong dose of reality or the patient will die.

What concessions?? THis is the same organization that insists GM keep thousands of non-productive employees on th payrole, causing them to psend millions of dollars for no return..

Sorry, but IMHO the UAW is one union that has stepped wayoutside of what it is supposed to be doing. Lets restructure thre UAW first, then fix the Big Three..

I still wonder if I should have pushed Mitt off the dorm roof.

Peter, you did us a dis-service electing not to... Let him get laid off, live off unemployment benefits for months, while making insurance and house payments, without his inherited millions and see how fast he changes his damned tune.

If it were not for men like Mitt, you would not have someone to work for, You should thank him, for providing jobs for 1000's.

How many unemployed, poor people have hired you?

Ungrateful...

the big three got the wake up call in the 70's and what did they do???? They tossed the clock out the window and went back to big.....Crysler (sp) was bailed out and still they did not get the message....let them go bankrupt clean themselves up and cancell the union contracts....remember some of those people are getting 65 dollars to put a tire on a car.....time to bring that cost down not kill the unions just bring them back to reality. US greed did this to the country, call predatory capitalism, normal capitalism is fine....but the greed germ is what hurts.

How many car workers at the big three have non american cars? Find that stat.

My daughter who used to live in Salt Lake City told me that Mitt only does what's good for him and he'll flip flop until doomsday. He was insufferable in school because his father was Governor. I'm sorry guys I failed you. The dorm was 3 storys tall. Should have tossed him.

If it weren't for people like me, Mitt would not be where he is - there would be no laborer's backs from which to skim his profits... Don, it's a 2-way street!

My cousin's husband worked for a Packard wiring harness plant. Packard, being connected at the hip with General Motors, forbid anything but Gen Motors cars in the employee parking lot. If an employee drove anything else, as he did, a 65 Mustang, it was subject to being destroyed while the owner worked his shift. Wonderful people to work for/with aren't they?

True Gerry.
You did not drive a foreign car in Lansing if you worked for GM. Even domestic, it had to be GM.

Strange thing I observed, when I lived in Florida there BMWs, Eclipses, Mercedes, Hondas, Nissans, etc all over the place.

Moved to Michigan and zap those cars are not here. Just Pontiacs all over the place. Cadillacs yes, I've only seen one Lincoln Town car in two years. I'm in the twilight zone.

I will have to admit that GM, thru Packard, did offer the employees a discount to encourage the purchase of GM cars. Nothing wrong with that but by encouraging the vandalism of non-GM cars in the parking lot they went too far. He was forced to get rid of his Mustang for an old Olds to be able to park in the lot without losing any more windshields, batteries, radiators and tires.

I my thirty years of driving company cars paid for the by the company we never bought a foreign made car. Does that make us bastards.

No. The difference is that you were driving company cars owned by the company.

My deceased brother was a highly successful attorney in Lansing before he died in 84 at age 44. His clients were Demmer Tool and Die company, Lansing Stamping, Motor Wheel, Douglas Steel,Capitol Savings & Loan, the list goes on. He got gutsy and bought a new 1963 MGB. He found that there were certain clients he had to hide that car from. Later in the 70's he bought another sports car that was "safe" to own, a Mercury Capri with T Tops.

I'll never forget his B. I owned a 59 Healey 100-6 two seater. The MG was so luxurious, roomy and had roll up windows! A Beauty.
